trophy proportions, accounting for many state records. With its cool, clear,
deep waters, the lake is ideal for game fish including rainbow trout,
channel catfish, white bass and world-class walleye.
- Water Sports
The lake has become a favorite for water enthusiasts from as far
away as Denver and Omaha. Sail boating, windsurfing, water skiing, swimming,
scuba diving, jet skiing and many other sports are enjoyed during the summer
months. Winter months find ice boaters, skaters, skiers and backpackers
enjoying the area. Major championship events are held throughout the summer
across the lake.
- Eagle Viewing
With one of the region’s largest eagle populations, Lake
McConaughy offers exceptional eagle viewing opportunities as well as a new
eagle viewing facility.
- Hunting
As campers, water skiers, swimmers and most fishermen exit the
area during the fall, Big Mac becomes a hunting paradise. The Clear Creek
Waterfowl Management Area located at the west end of the lake offers
excellent hunting for Canadian geese. Deer, antelope, pheasant, quail, dove,
partridge, grouse, turkey and rabbit hunting is also abundant and easily
